Letter to the parents, July 2022:

A message from the Rosary School Chair of Governors, Mr Philip Rush:
I wanted to let you know something about the discussions which are taking place about a ‘multi-academy trust’ in Gloucestershire. There is a proposal from the Bishop that all the Catholic primary schools in Gloucestershire link together legally as a trust. The governors of the Rosary School have formally agreed to take part in discussions about this.

There are definitely some advantages to being part of a larger trust. We have been assured that the individual character of the Rosary School would not change. The uniform, the class teachers, the delightful little quirks, which make it such a lovely school: none of these would change. We already work very closely with colleagues in Catholic primary schools in Gloucestershire, and our work with other schools in the Stroud area would not be affected.

We have not yet been able to find out how much it will all cost. This is something which the discussions will be about. We have said to the partnership already that we are very wary of committing the school to paying for something which we cannot afford. We want to see that the financial benefits of joining a Catholic trust balance the costs.

I do not want you to think that we are telling you about this close to the end of term, and just before the long holidays, in order to get things done behind your back. This is not the case. In the new term, all being well, as discussions begin, we will keep all teachers, staff, parents and carers informed of all developments. I am hoping to use the school newsletter to update you on any discussions and firm proposals.

Once the governors start to have some answers to some of the big questions (like, ‘How much will it cost?’ ‘How exactly will things be better for our pupils?’ and ‘How precisely will things change?’), we will hold a series of meetings with parents and carers, where we can share what we know, listen to your questions and try to answer them, as well as hear your opinions.

I do not want the school to be distracted by the discussions about a multi-academy trust. The important work of the school, educating your children, helping them to work and play in a friendly and Christian atmosphere, keeping them safe, must always be at the forefront of everyone at the Rosary School. I have no doubt that Mrs Savory and her team will keep everything going well for all the children here.
