Art and Design
Our core aim for all pupils
We aim to inspire pupils and develop their confidence to experiment and invent their own works of art. In lessons, pupils are given opportunities to develop their ability, nurture their talent and interests, express their ideas and thoughts about the world, as well as learn about the rich heritage and culture of the British Isles and beyond. We develop pupils knowledge and understanding of key artists and art movements and link to artists through practical work. Pupils learn how to make their own creative choices and decisions, so that their art outcomes, whilst still being knowledge-rich, are unique to the pupil and personal. Lessons are always practical in nature and encourage experimental and exploratory learning.
Our approach to teaching art and design
The study of art and design is part of the curriculum for KS1 and KS2 pupils.
In art & design we cover the following skills:

- Generating ideas and taking inspiration from a range of artists and crafts people
- Formal elements: colour, form, line, pattern, shape, texture and tone
- Knowledge of artists' work and techniques
- Evaluating: critiquing their own work and that of others
