PE & Sports Premium
Primary schools receive funding each year to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport. This funding – provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport – has been allocated to primary school headteachers. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and Sport in schools.
"All young people should have the opportunity to live healthy and active lives. A positive experience of sport and physical activity at a young age can build a lifetime habit of participation...
Physical activity has numerous benefits for children and young people’s physical health, as well as their mental wellbeing (increasing self-esteem and emotional wellbeing and lowering anxiety and depression), and children who are physically active are happier, more resilient and more trusting of their peers. Ensuring that pupils have access to sufficient daily activity can also have wider benefits for pupils and schools, improving behaviour as well as enhancing academic achievement".

The P.E. and Sport Premium can help primary schools to achieve The School Sport and Activity Action Plan set out by the government. A commitment to ensure that children have access to a minimum level of sport and physical activity.
For the year 2022-2023, we used our funding to:
- Improve new teachers' confidence and skills in physical education.
- Increase resources and kit available to children.
- Provide a wide opportunity of activities for pupils, within the curriculum and through the wider curriculum, including improving good mental health and well-being.
