French
Our approach to teaching French
Learning a language is part of the curriculum for KS2 (Year 3-6) pupils, and at the Rosary School, we have chosen to learn French. We use a very comprehensive and excellent scheme called Kapow Primary (used in over 2,200 school nationally). The scheme of work enables pupils to meet the end of Key Stage Attainment targets outlined in the National Curriculum. We cover the following skills using the Kapow teaching framework and associated resources:
- Writing
- Reading
- Grammar
- Speaking and listening
- Intercultural understanding
- Language learning strategies
Our core aim for all pupils
We aim to instil a love of language learning within our pupils, encouraging them to be languages detectives, working to decode new vocabulary. Each of the topics we choose features a mixture of speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, language learning strategies and cultural references.
