About the Rosary School
A Warm Welcome from the Headteacher
Hello and welcome to The Rosary Catholic Primary School!
I’m Mrs Knighton, and it’s my great privilege to lead this wonderful school. At the Rosary, we pride ourselves on being more than just a place of learning—we are a community. Whether you’re a new family considering joining us or a long-standing part of our school family, know that you are truly welcome here.
Our school is built on values that resonate deeply: Respect, Love, Aspiration, Inclusivity, and Curiosity. These aren’t just words; they shape everything we do, from the way we teach to the way we care for one another. Every child who walks through our doors is seen, valued, and encouraged to be their best self.
We are proud of our diverse and inclusive community, which enriches all our lives. It’s a joy to see children learning not just from books but from each other—discovering different cultures, faiths, and perspectives. At the heart of our Catholic ethos is a belief in nurturing the whole child, spiritually as well as academically. Prayer and reflection are woven into the fabric of our school day, providing moments of stillness and connection.
Our dedicated team works tirelessly to create a safe, stimulating environment where children can thrive. Whether it’s through exciting lessons, Forest School adventures, or the many clubs and activities we offer, there’s something here for every child to explore and enjoy.
I would love to welcome you in person and show you what makes the Rosary so special. Please do get in touch to arrange a visit—I’d be delighted to meet you and your family.
With warmest wishes,
Mrs J. Knighton
Interim Headteacher
Welcome to the Rosary School website
Our school is a small, co-educational Academy for children aged 4 to 11 years. Whilst small, we are lucky to have rich diversity in our school community, with more than fifty percent of our families being of a different faith or a non-faith background.
We believe that belonging to a secure, supportive and encouraging community, helps our pupils feel ready to learn every day. Our school's mission is to deliver an excellent education that is fun, varied and comprehensive to every pupil. Our staff work together to model Christian values and community, encouraging our pupils to foster healthy relationships with one another and grow in their social and emotional development. By the end of their primary school education, our pupils feel prepared for and are equipped to thrive at secondary school.
Our school values are respect, love, aspiration, inclusivity and curiosity. We want to create an environment everyday for our pupils to feel ready to do their best academically, socially and emotionally. We use our school values to shape the daily life of our school community as well as decision-making at a school leadership and strategic level. The children tell us that they are proud to be part of our school, and we too are very proud of each of them, their individual talents and their achievements, big and small.
We are located in the centre of Stroud, easily accessible on foot, by public transport or by car. Our school site is tucked away, up on the hill above The Five Valleys Centre. We are proud to have been rated 'Good' by Ofsted, and are fortunate to be able to offer a a single year group per class structure.
“Teachers have high expectations of the pupils. Training to understand national standards and benchmarks has enabled teachers to raise their ambitions for the pupils so that they can achieve well across the school, including the most able pupils”, School Ofsted Report 2017.
Our school's grounds and facilities
The school is set in its own grounds consisting of lots of green space including a large playing field, and an environmental garden and forest school area. For pupils wanting a place to sit and chat or read, we have a summer house to make use of. We also have three separate playgrounds with adventure playground equipment. One of the playgrounds is sole use, for Reception and Year One pupils, and has a large covered area and lots of age appropriate play equipment.
Inside the main school building, we have a large hall for assemblies and P.E. Our school canteen provides healthy home-cooked hot lunches daily which our pupils can select, or alternatively they can bring a packed lunch. All classrooms are large, carpeted and well resourced. There is a well stocked library with music area and separate small group classrooms for Special Educational Needs and EAL pupils. We are fortunate to have in-school Pastoral Support and a cosy Pastoral Support room where pupils can go to feel listened to. Computing is delivered through a suite of iPads, available in each classroom. We develop and maintain our own website so that parents/carers and the wider community can learn more about our school.
Rise and Shine!
We run our own Morning Nurture Club in school, "Rise and Shine", Mondays to Fridays, which is run to improve pupils attendance or where wellbeing needs can be supported. Spaces are limited so please ask for details.
There is also an on-site Breakfast and After School Club run by BarBar Nursery to assist our families with wrap-around care if required.
After-hours support and enrichment.
To enrich our pupils time at the Rosary School, we offer a range of clubs, activities and roles to try out, managed by our staff or external partners.
We invite you to take to look around our website to learn more about us. If you would like to know more still, or would like to visit our school, please do get in touch.
