    Our School Day

To find out details of how the Y5 pupils spend their time, please take a look at the timeline of our school day. Important times to note are arrival time (8.40am) and registration (8.50am). It is important the children are at school and settled in time for the day to begin.

    Curriculum Support

The English national curriculum means children in different schools (at primary and secondary level) study the same subjects to similar standards - it's split into key stages with tests. If you would like to know more about each individual subject please visit our Curriculum Page. Each term our class topic will link in to the curriculum in a way that brings the subjects to life for the children.

    Autumn Term Topic

Our Autumn term topic is Peaks and Crowns. Take a look at our Curriculum Map to see what the children will be learning in each subject.

    PE

Our PE day is on Tuesday. We also take part in 'Fitness Fridays' with the rest of the school so the children will also need to wear PE kit every Friday. Please click here to find out PE kit requirements.

    Forest School

We are very lucky to be able to offer regular sessions to all our classes at the Rosary School. Our grounds are perfect to help the children connect and engage with the outdoors, and learn through active and exciting tasks and challenges such as den building, making a fire or tools, and identifying insects and birds. Y5 Forest School sessions are every three weeks on Friday.  Children will need to wear Forest School kit to school on these days, details of which can be found along with the session timetable attached.

    Reading & Book Change

The children are encouraged to read the books they choose at school regularly. It would be most helpful if you can take time to read with them every week (4 times a week minimum) and record your comments in their reading record. When they are familiar with the book they should change it for a new one. Our book change day is on Monday.

    Library

We have a "Book Club" session in the library each week on a Thursday. The children get the opportunity to share their library books with their peers. They also change their library books in this session.

    English

This term the children will be exploring different texts to inspire their writing. They will write explanation text, a biography and an adventure narratives.

This term, our class reading book is Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan.

Rainbow & Read Write Inc Spellings

Our Rainbow Spellings in each year group focus on 'tricky words' that are commonly misspelt or do not follow regular rules. These words are re-visited two years in a row and are tested each week on a Thursday.

In Year 5 we continue to practise Read Write Inc Spellings which focus on the rules of spelling. Children have a week to look at each rule before they are tested in class on a Monday.

    Maths

Take a look at the Maths knowledge organisers below to help you understand what your child is learning each term.

Our Class Saint - St Carlo Acutis

    Feast Day: 12th October

Carlo Acutis was born in London in 1991. He grew up in Milan, Italy.

Acutis passed away in 2006 at the age of 15 due to leukaemia. His life, though short, was marked by a profound faith and a passion for technology, which he used to spread the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Carlo had great devotion to the Eucharist and he created a website documenting Eucharistic miracles.

He was passionate about caring for others, particularly the vulnerable, and in school he stood up for people who were bullied. He famously encouraged all his friends to embrace their uniqueness, urging them to be ‘originals not photocopies.’ His dedication to faith and skill with technology earned him recognition within the Catholic community and beyond.

Pope Francis formally recognised two miracles attributed to Carlo, paving the way for his canonisation as a saint in September 2025. He is the first saint of the millennial generation.
