Supporting the learning of your child at home

So that we can work as a team in supporting your child’s progress, I have suggested some ways you can support your child this term as they make the transition into Year 1.

  • Read and talk about books together – daily is ideal. Listening to you read, as well as reading to you, will enhance the children’s love of reading and stories. The children will bring home a school reading book which they can change when they have finished it. Please write in their reading record when you have heard your child read.
  • Practise reading sight words and phonics words – these will be sent home to reinforce learning in school.
  • Support your children with their homework if needed. Homework books containing a homework grid will be sent home on Friday 6th September. The children can choose an activity to complete each week. This homework is optional.
